The attackers used malicious software to steal bank card details, logins and passwords from Internet user accounts. For this, the defendants face up to six years behind bars.

Employees of the Dnepropetrovsk Cybercrime Department, together with investigators from the Cathedral Department of the Regional Police, under the procedural leadership of the Dnepropetrovsk Local Prosecutor's Office No. 2, exposed two local residents of the Solonyansky District of unauthorized interference in the operation of websites, theft and sale of confidential information from Internet users.

The cyber police found that two 19-year-old boys were involved in such actions. The cybercriminals purchased specialized software that allowed them to interfere with the operation of various websites and collect information about users: bank card details, logins and passwords from accounts.

Further, the stolen data were formed into "databases" by the persons involved and sold on hacker forums. They received money for them on electronic wallets. The attackers' database contained confidential information of more than a million citizens of different countries, including citizens of Ukraine.

Law enforcers conducted searches at the places of residence of the defendants. Computer equipment, mobile phones, bank cards, which were used in criminal activities, were seized as material evidence. Material evidence is aimed at conducting the appropriate expertise.

Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of electronic computers (computers), automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face up to six years in prison. The pre-trial investigation continues.

In order to prevent your confidential data from getting to unauthorized persons, the cyber police advises:
use two-factor authentication whenever possible;
use different passwords for accounts;
create complex passwords containing at least eight characters, upper and lower case letters, numbers.
